Britain's favourite sounds...
With the temperature having risen ten degrees, the sound of an ice cream van approaching or waves crashing on a beach may now be more appealing now than it was in mid-June.
In a ComRes/Guide Dogs poll last month just 5% said that their favourite summer sound was an ice cream van approaching, compared to two fifths who preferred birdsong (43%).
However, the results do reveal who will be flocking to the seaside this weekend – almost half of young adults (45% of 18-24 year olds) pick out the sound of waves crashing against the beach as their favourite summer sound.
For the 5% who enjoy most listening to ‘willow on leather’, The Ashes will likely add to the high spirits brought about by the British summertime.
