GMC Tracking Survey 2016
Survey of the GMC’s key stakeholder groups to benchmark perceptions of the organisation and inform future strategy development.

In 2014, the GMC commissioned quantitative research among its key stakeholder audiences to benchmark their perceptions of the organisation, determine how specific areas of the GMC’s work are regarded by key groups, and support its communication and engagement with them. The research was entitled ‘GMC Perceptions Study’ and was repeated in 2016 to understand how any perceptions had changed over time and to evaluate its communication among the following seven audiences:

  • Doctors;
  • Medical students;
  • Educators;
  • General public and patients;
  • Stakeholders;
  • Parliamentarians; and
  • Employers.

The findings from the 2016 survey will be used to help to inform the development of the GMC’s next corporate strategy in 2017. The full report can be found here.

ComRes interviewed: 2,306 doctors online between 13th June and 13th July 2016 (data were weighted to reflect the population of medical practitioners by ethnicity, region, registration status, age and gender, based on figures provided by the GMC); 580 final year medical students online between 9th May and 27th June 2016 (data were weighted by gender, age and ethnicity to be representative of all final year medical students); 400 employers by telephone between 23rd May and 20th June 2016; 46 medical educators by online between 9th May and 30th June 2016; 50 stakeholders and parliamentarians by telephone between 14th March and 22nd June 2016; 1,502 UK adults by telephone between 11th and 21st April 2016 (data were weighted by gender, age, region and socio-economic grade to be representative of all GB adults aged 16+)
