Millions of adults plan to switch their heating off completely this Christmas to save money on their energy bills, a new study has warned.
Research for affordable housing provider Circle Housing found that more than three million adults (7%) intend to turn off their heating altogether this Christmas in order to save money. Furthermore, six million British adults (12%) say that they intend to use a credit or loan product to pay for Christmas this year, of which a quarter (26%) plan to do so just to cover their energy costs.
One in four adults (26%) said they have been unable to afford to heat their home during the winter at some point, rising to almost two thirds (65%) of those with a pre-payment meter. Of these, around half (45%) said they did not heat their home as a result.
