The recent arrival of Prince George has further cemented public support for the monarchy: two-thirds (66%) are in favour of it while under one in five (17%) would like Britain to become a republic - indeed the number expecting Britain to become a republic has declined from a quarter to just 9% over the last two years - no doubt partly due to the success of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Royal Wedding.
The ComRes/Sunday Telegraph poll also brought some cheer for Prince Charles with more of the public believing the throne should pass to him as opposed to Prince William when the Queen dies or if she were to abdicate - 42% versus 38%.
